Investing in the future

During the summer and autumn of 2023, SawallaH collaborated with people of VZW Humasol to develop a plan to provide electricity – in a sustainable way – to the SawallaH schools using solar panels and batteries. Four students from UGent are preparing the installation, and they will be on-site in July and August of 2024 to roll out the installation. The members of Humasol purchase the materials, to the extent possible, in Gambia. The actual installation is carried out in consultation and collaboration with Gambian technicians and students, who will also be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the installation thereafter.

Before this happens, we are renewing the roof of the SawallaH Nursery School. The existing roof has suffered greatly from the intense African sun and tropical storms. It was worn down to the thread and urgently needed replacement.
